Lent Day 1

Lent Day 1

Went great!

Although these days I attend a Baptist Church; I was raised Catholic.
So when Lent came around this year I decided to teach the kids about it.
We read about Ash Wednesday and Lent, then planned what we will be giving up as a sacrifice.

We decided to each sacrifice different things.
My children, ages 11 and 8, I feel made a brave choice. They are giving up TV for the 40 days of Lent. They decided to do this together so that way they had each other to occupy their free time.

As I type this they are building a fort in my living room....lol

My husband just may be making the largest sacrifice, he has chosen to give up sweet tea. For those of you who don't know my hubby.....He needs that sweet tea! I am so proud of his choice.

I made my choice first as an example for my family. I gave up wasted computer time. I gave up facebook and all the silly games I play on it. Plus any wasted hours I spend during the day just reading and looking up junk. I contemplated giving up the computer all together, but that wasn't possible with owning my own business and running a cub scout den and with both kids playing ball (their coaches contact me through email)... emails are unfortunately essential. So I have decided to just give up wasted computer time.

This blog will serve us as a record of our journey, through my family's days of Lent.

We also opted to add a goal to this Lent season. We each decided to choose a goal we would like to accomplish through this 40 days. We all sorta followed the same path. My husband decided his goal would be to try and lift weights daily, my daughter wants "rock hard abs" so her goal is sit ups, sit ups, and more sit ups daily. My son has decided to improve his baseball, by practicing outside on his pitch and toss each day. I have decided to walk every day at least a mile.

We also created a sort of Advent Chart but for lent to also track our progress. We hung it right on the glass doors leading out to our porch so we see it daily as a reminder.

And to top it all off we are following www.bustedhalo.com which has an online Lent Calendar. And on today's Day 1 we were to fast for 1 meal, then give that money to the needy. And we did. The children have never fasted anything, so we all skipped lunch. Come 1:30 you'd think my young son was gonna die... I giggled at him and said son, you can go a few hours without food, you had a huge breakfast. And we all succeeded and everyone felt so proud of it!

My true goal through all of this is to grow closer to my God, my Jesus, I pray through these sacrifices he is able to see the true love my family and I have for him.

God Bless Everyone.... See you tomorrow with Day 2's up date...

P.S. Gonna post this to FB, but wont see anyone's reply... as I said I am off for 40 days =)
